While not "technically" a personal trainer at the time, I first started by giving private lessons at the martial arts school I trained/taught at.
Some people that took private lessons from me wanted to improve their strength and conditioning as opposed to specific martial arts skills.
I had improved my own strength, conditioning, and flexibility using a combination of kettlebells and calisthenics, and they wanted similar results.
